How to Sell Crypto for EUR and Get Paid by SEPA
Europe has the cheapest bank rails in the world for this. Here is how to use SEPA properly, and what MiCA changed about which stablecoins you can hold.

European holders have a genuine advantage: SEPA is fast, cheap and standardised across 36 countries. Converting stablecoins to euros is usually cheaper and quicker than the equivalent in dollars. There are rules specific to the EU worth understanding first.
SEPA, SEPA Instant, and which you get
| SEPA Credit Transfer | SEPA Instant | |
|---|---|---|
| Speed | Same or next business day | Under 10 seconds |
| Availability | Universal across the SEPA area | Widely supported, not universal |
| Hours | Business days only | 24/7, including weekends |
Many off-ramps still use standard SEPA, so a payout made on a Friday evening lands on Monday. Rampy pays euros by SEPA Instant where the receiving bank supports it, which is almost every bank in the euro area now, so a payout usually lands in seconds, weekends included.
What MiCA changed
The EU's Markets in Crypto-Assets regulation set rules for stablecoin issuers operating in Europe. The practical effect for you is that some stablecoins are restricted or delisted for EEA users, and providers serving Europe increasingly support only compliant options such as USDC and EURC. If you hold USDT and are in the EEA, check your provider supports it before planning around it.
EURC removes the FX step
If your destination account is in euros, converting a dollar stablecoin means an FX conversion somewhere, and someone charges for it. EURC is a euro-denominated stablecoin, so converting EURC to EUR avoids that step entirely. If you are consistently cashing out to a euro account, holding EURC rather than USDC removes a cost layer.
The steps
- Verify your identity. EEA residents may need proof of address as well as ID.
- Add the IBAN. Your own must be in the name you are verified under; to pay somebody else, add it as their account with their name and address.
- Choose your stablecoin and network. Base and Solana are cheap; Ethereum is expensive.
- Create the sell order and check the quote including fees.
- Send the exact amount to the deposit address, on the stated network.
- Include the reference given. Without it the payment cannot be matched.
Costs to expect
SEPA itself is usually free or a few cents at your bank. The meaningful costs are the provider's percentage and the network fee for sending the stablecoin. Because SEPA is cheap to operate, many providers price their lowest rate on this rail, so it is often the cheapest way to cash out in Europe.
Rampy pays out in EUR over SEPA, and supports EURC so there is no FX step at all.
Sell for EURFrequently asked
How long does a SEPA payout take?
Standard SEPA settles the same or next business day. SEPA Instant settles in seconds, weekends included, and is what Rampy uses wherever the receiving bank supports it.
Can I use USDT in the EU?
It depends on your provider. MiCA has led several European platforms to restrict or delist certain stablecoins for EEA users, with USDC and EURC most consistently supported.
Do I need a euro account?
You need an account that can receive SEPA, which means a euro-denominated IBAN. Paying into a non-euro account triggers an FX conversion by your bank.
